The Business Accelerator helps “move your business further forward faster”
Nigel Robson, Business Accelerator Class of 2019
Watch Nigel's video testimonial to hear his thoughts on the effects the Business Accelerator programme has had on his business.
This isn’t Nigel’s first business venture but in this case his idea was based in an industry and market that he had little experience in. When he applied for the business accelerator programme, Nigel had been focused on the groundwork and fundamental issues of selling a food based product, so he saw this as an opportunity to help move his business to the next stage.
As part of the business accelerator, Nigel benefited from being surrounded by like-minded peers during the Starting Up Saturday bootcamp day. And in particular, he attributes the pitching activities as having had the most impact on his business. They changed his whole marketing outlook from a scientific approach to one of taste and product quality. This revelation came from analysing his target market to understand what they wanted to hear that would make them buy the product.
“It helped me realise that I should be pitching the whole product in a different way.”
Another benefit for Nigel was the network of connections he made on the programme that really pushed his business forward. These connections stemmed from the focused twilight sessions covering topics such as legal, finances and marketing with expert guidance to apply to his context.
“I found it really worthwhile attending the sessions that filled in gaps I didn’t know I had.”
Nigel now has a new website and marketing campaign based on being “deliciously good for you!” and is selling his product across Europe. His advice to budding local entrepreneurs?
“If you are contemplating starting a business in Guernsey this is a really well put together programme, that covers all the key things you need to think about and know.”
